Luxury Train Travel: Planning A One-Of-A-Kind Business Or Pleasure Trip
In yesteryear, luxury train travel was a much more common event among the rich and famous than it is today. The wealthy boarded private railway cars when there was a long-distance trip scheduled. Today, you may experience that same type of pampering in chartered cars in the North America, Europe and around the world. The purpose for luxury travel may be simply reaching a destination, or it can be the trip itself. Celebrations such as birthdays, anniversaries or wedding receptions are another reason for travel in luxurious settings.
You can choose a restored car style that calls up memories of the great Pullman car days. Perhaps you would rather travel in a Victorian-style carriage. Nostalgia is a key ingredient in the private car experience. Yet, you get the latest in comfort in your traveling hotel suite.
Even though the railway cars are fully restored, they include the necessary amenities to make your travel by rail comfortable. Some cars have bedrooms and showers. You cay select from full kitchen facilities or a catered meal. Cocktails can be served in a lounge or a second-story viewing car. Listen to music on a CD or tape player. Maybe you would prefer television or a movie.
Another popular way to hold a conference or business meeting is by chartering a rail car with a fully appointed kitchen, complete with a chef who presides over the facilities. A group of executives can concentrate on the business at hand while enjoying food equivalent to a five-star kitchen. Think about holding your next business conference in a unique and exciting boardroom on the rails.
Want to experience a totally unique trip to watch a sporting event with a group from your hometown? This is a common practice in Europe. You can avoid all the hassles of traffic and rest stops by just climbing aboard the train. Sit back in luxurious surroundings and share your favorite sporting stories while you travel to and from the away game of your home town football team.
Traveling by luxury car allows you to take short trips such as a dinner trip. You can charter your travel time to be suitable for an all-day business meeting. This is also a great way to take a group to a point of interest. Cars can be rented for single family vacation of scenic interest while providing all the needs for a family.
Even if you never got to enjoy a trip on the Orient Express, you can evoke the same type of experience by chartering a railway car. Luxury train travel is convenient and provides for nostalgic experiences. You get the sense of history as you travel while viewing today’s scenic locations.

Travel In Sumidero Canyon
When thinking about canyons, you’ll be surprised by Sumidero Canyon which is different from the Grand Arizona. What makes Sumidero Canyon different is, while the latter is in a desert, Sumidero Canyon is an explosion of greenery, water, and wildlife.
Canyon de Sumidero is in Chiapas State, Southeast Mexico. Canyon de Sumidero begins near Chiapa de Corzo, stretches for 35km. Canyon de Sumidero finally ends at the reservoir of the Chicoasn hydroelectric dam.
Canyon de Sumidero can be visited by boat or driving along the miradores at the top of the cliffs surrounding Canyon de Sumidero. We opted to join a boat trip at the Cahuar embarcadero. We were quite fortunate that a number of people turned up shortly after us, so we didn’t need to wait for long. After putting on our life vests we were ready to go to Canyon de Sumidero!
The boatman took us to some of the interesting spots along Canyon de Sumidero. The first one was the Cueva de Colores (Colours Cave), a small cave which has some interesting pinkish colours on the ceiling and a small statue of Virgin of Guadalupe. Later, towards the middle of the boat trip, we arrived at the highest point of Canyon de Sumidero, a cliff that reaches nearly 1000m, where the mountains from both sides of the river create an impressive gate full of life surrounded by nature.
My favourite spot in Canyon de Sumidero was a curious formation called the Christmas Tree. During the rainy season it becomes a waterfall, but during the winter, when the rain is not so abundant in Canyon de Sumidero, an interesting formation is created covered with moss that resembles a Christmas Tree. It was quite a coincidence to be in Canyon de Sumidero during Christmas season to contemplate this interesting sight.
After an hour, we arrived at the end of the Canyon de Sumidero, where the river meets the Chicoasn dam. On the way back from Canyon de Sumidero we tried to spot spider monkeys, birds and crocodiles. We were fortunate to see them all in Canyon de Sumidero.

Understanding The Kentucky Derby For Horse Racing Novices
Although the Breeders’ Cup is nipping at its heels, without a doubt the Kentucky Derby is the biggest horse race of the year in the United States. This is a race that attracts many fans from the general public that typically don’t follow horse racing. A thorough understanding of horse racing, and which horses will win and why is a complex discipline that requires extensive specialized knowledge.
Despite the complexity of understanding horse racing, there are a few basic rules that can help the novice watch the Kentucky Derby with a greater degree of enjoyment. Until recently, the Derby was a race dominated by the favorite. In the 1970’s great horses like Secretariat and Seattle Slew blew away the field but since Spectacular Bid’s winning run in 1979 there have been only a couple of favorites to win the big race. While a serious horse player might not want to categorically dismiss the popular favorite, for the horse racing novice this is a helpful way to narrow down the field.
So why has the favorite done so poorly in recent years? One theory suggests that it is a by-product of the hype surrounding the race. Novice horse fans back the favorite, making it more of a popularity contest than anything else. The reality is that the horse with the most hype is not always the best horse.
Don’t forget to pay attention to the starting position of the horses, known as ‘post position’ in racing slang. The historical data suggests that a Derby winner is most likely to come from positions 1 through 5, while the outer positions (11 through 20) have produced relatively few winners. This is something of an over simplification, but for the purpose of understanding a single race it won’t hurt to just rule out all horses starting in a bad position.
A horse’s lineage and breeding is also an important factor in the race. While this may be the most complex and demanding area of horse racing, there is a simple rule of thumb that can help a novice for this race. Most high level race horses are born in Kentucky. Well over 80% of Derby winners have also been born in the Bluegrass State. So just eliminate all horses that weren’t born in Kentucky. Then consider a horse’s gender and eliminate any horse that isn’t an intact male (geldings and fillies). Over 90% of all Derby winners have been intact males, though a gelding did win the race in 2003 (Funny Cide). For the horse racing novice, however, this is another good way to pare down the field.
Don’t forget to consider dosage index numbers. These are a complex mathematical formula that measures a horse’s breeding lineage plus his past performance. You want to look for horses with a dosage index of 4.00 or less–over half of Derby winners have met this criteria since dosage numbers came into common usage in the mid 1980’s.
These are just a few steps that will serve you well if you dont know much about horses. Again, if you want to take a more serious approach to understanding horse racing you should look into the many books dedicated to the subject. For a recreational horse race enthusiast, however, these basic rules are helpful in trying to predict the Derby winner.

Japanese Pro Wrestling Legend Mitsuharu Misawa Remembered
Mitsuharu Misawa died in Hiroshima, Japan earlier this year less than a week before his 47th birthday. He was in a tag team match for his Pro Wrestling NOAH promotion with Go Shiozaki against Bison Smith and Akitoshi Saito. Saito hit a back suplex on Misawa, which appeared to knock him unconscious. Medical staff attempted to revive him in the ring, but when CPR failed he was taken to a hospital by ambulance. Initial reports in the Japanese media suggest that he was pronounced dead at the hospital, but a number of eyewitness accounts have speculated that he may have died in the ring.
That’s at least a small bit of solace amid the tragedy of Misawa’s death–he died in the ring doing what he loved, and what he did better than just about anyone on the planet. Not like Owen Hart died in the ring, doing a stupid stunt in a silly character that he was reportedly assigned as punishment for refusing to go along with a storyline he felt demeaning, but working the kind of brutally stiff, athletically realistic match that got a generation hooked on Japanese wrestling.
A top level amateur wrestler in high school, his skill gained the attention of All Japan Pro Wrestling president Shohei Giant Baba. He made his professional debut in’81, and got his first big break in’84 when he was chosen as the second Tiger Mask replacing Satoru Sayama. In’90, he had his longtime tag team partner (and occasional rival) Toshiaki Kawada unmask him.
Misawa would wrestle as himself from then on, and become an even bigger star in the process. In June,’90 he became one of the top stars in All Japan Pro Wrestling when he defeated Jumbo Tsuruta. That match was his first main event appearance at the venue Cheap Trick made famous in America, the Nippon Budokan. He soon faced Triple Crown Champion Stan Hansen in an unsuccessful challenge for the title, and would become arguably the biggest native star in Japanese pro wrestling for the next decade.
Hed have legendary battles against Kawada, Hansen, Kenta Kobashi, Jun Akiyama and Steve Dr. Death Williams in singles competition. Hed also become a force on the tag team scene along with Kawada facing Williams and Terry Gordy along with Tsuruta and Akira Taue. Misawa would continue as a mainstay in AJPW until the early part of this decade. After the death of Giant Baba, he left to establish Pro Wrestling NOAH. He would serve as the companys president while wrestling a full time schedule until his death.
Japanese pro wrestling served as an introduction for many American fans into shoot fight sports and MMA. Before the Internet, fans would trade videotapes to stay up on the latest matches from Japan and along with Jushin Thunder Liger and The Great Muta Keiji Mutoh it safe to say that Misawa is one of the wrestlers most responsible for getting a generation of American fans hooked on the product. Were it not for the subculture he created in America, later wrestling promotions like Ring of Honor and MMA promotions like the UFC wouldn’t have had a ready made audience to tap into.

Remembering Swedish Boxing Legend Ingemar Johansson
Ingemar Johannson died in a Swedish nursing home in January 2009 at the age of 76. He’d lived in the nursing home in the Swedish coastal city of Kungsbacka since the mid’90’s when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and dementia, and had suffered from a tough case of pneumonia immediately prior to his death.
Johannson rocketed to international fame and rock star like superstardom in Sweden by virtue of his 3rd round knockout victory over Floyd Patterson on June 26,’59 to become only the 5th heavyweight champion born outside of the US. Johannson was considered the underdog going into the matchup, and due to the perception that he wasn’t training particularly hard entered the bout a 5/1 underdog. Johansson was frequently seen in Catskill nightspots during his training camp with his attractive young secretary in stark contrast to Patterson’s disciplined regimen in preparation for his title defense.
Despite his devil may care approach to training, he shocked the boxing world on that night in Yankee Stadium. After a lackluster first two rounds, Johannson knocked Patterson to the canvas with a right hand early in the third. Patterson never recovered and was knocked down a total of seven times before the ref waved off the fight and awarded the victory to Johannson.
Johannson would hold the title for just under a year before he lost it back to Patterson in a rematch at the Polo Grounds in New York City. Patterson was the aggressor from the opening bell, and would eventually regain his title as he knocked Johannson out cold in the fifth round with a looping left hook. Johannson went down like he got shot, and took a ten count staring up at the lights with his leg twitching and blood dribbling out of his mouth. In the immediate aftermath of his victory, Patterson displayed the class of a champion as he was more concerned about Johanssons well being than celebrating his win. Patterson sat on the canvas with his fallen opponent cradling his head as medical personnel tended to Johannson. Floyd Patterson had just become the first man to regain the undisputed heavyweight championship, but his thoughts were with the man hed taken the title from.
Johannson would again face Patterson less than a year later, with the champ retaining his title via 6th round knockout after an exciting slugfest that saw both competitors taste the canvas. Eventually, however, Patterson’s superior conditioning prevailed and he earned the victory. Johannson would fight only four more times after that, all in his home country of Sweden, before retiring for good in’63.
Not surprising given the mutual respect shown during their heavyweight championship trilogy, Patterson and Johannson remained close lifelong friends and would travel to visit each other every year until the American champion died in 2006. While it is commonplace today for former in-ring adversaries to become close personal friends, it was something of an anomaly in the’60s. Johannson made a number of film appearances in Sweden, and spent time in South Florida every year. He remained in good health well into his sixties, running in marathons yearly until his physical ailments took their toll.
Johannson was married and divorced twice, and is survived by five children. Ingemar Johannson enjoyed rock star like status in Sweden during his title reign and remained a widely respected and admired sportsman throughout his life. He’ll be remembered by the international boxing community for the vital role he played in popularizing the sport in Europe and Scandinavia.

No matter what age you visit it is something that you will remember always.
Aside from the Falls, Canada is full of wonderful natural beauty. If you love ruggedness and the outdoors, then Canada is the perfect place to visit.
